CLAIM
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Guri, slumped and died inside his office in Abuja recently.
THE FINDINGS
Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.
A keyword search conducted online reveals that the Nigerian police Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Guri, actually died on June 3, 2024, and reputable media platforms widely reported his death at the time.
The Nigerian Tribune and Vanguard reported in June 2024 that Guri died at the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters in Abuja after he reportedly slumped in his office. Witnesses said the officer, dressed in uniform, showed no signs of illness before he collapsed. Medical efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Contrary to the viral Facebook post implying a recent death in 2025, the incident happened a year ago.

Furthermore, The FactCheckHub scoured through media reports and official handles of the police and we couldn’t find any recent report related to the incident.
Additionally, a reverse image search and visual analysis of the photo attached to the Facebook post shows that the man lying on the floor is not the late Guri. The individual in the photo is wearing a traditional purple outfit and glasses, while DCP Guri was reportedly in uniform when he collapsed.

A comparison with verified photos of Guri, where were reported by credible media outlets, confirmed that the person in the viral photo has a different facial structure, body type, and appearance.

This shows that the image was used out of context to re-circulate an old story and mislead the public.
THE VERDICT
The claim that the Nigerian police Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Guri recently died in his office in Abuja is MISLEADING. Guri died in June 2024, not 2025, and the photo used in the Facebook post does not depict him either.
