Viral security operatives break-in video NOT from Southeast

Share

A video showing armed security operatives forcefully breaking into a residential apartment has sparked outrage online, with claims that the incident took place in Nigeria’s Southeast region.

A Facebook user, Uche Nworah, posted the footage with the caption:

“We have created a culture of violent, opportunistic behaviour in the Southeast under the guise of combating insecurity. Any armed, hooded and untrained individual, accompanied by his mates who are probably drugged out, can invade your home and carry out various acts of aggression, as evidenced in this undated video. There are no proper protocols in place, and human rights are not respected. When will this terror end? Imagine if there were children living in the house.”

The post has generated over 400 likes and shares as of July 30, 2025 with many condemning the actions of the officers and accusing Nigerian security agencies of unchecked brutality in the Southeast.

THE FINDINGS

Checks by The FactCheckHub show the claim is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search using frames from the video led to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as Michael d Preacher(@MichealFrosh32), who originally shared the clip on July 25, 2025.

In the post, he clarified that the incident occurred in Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, located in Southwest Nigeria.

His post reads:

“As of today, Operation Flush in Ado-Ekiti attempted a daylight robbery at an apartment in Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti, by forcefully attacking the premises. This isn’t their first time, but today we have the evidence to stand up for our rights. #saveUs #NANSAdoekiti #PoliceProtest.”

Further investigation shows the Police Complaint Response Unit (PCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force responded to the post, confirming that the incident happened in Ekiti. They, however, denied being part of the operation.

Part of the statement reads: “The Ekiti Police Command is not unaware of the video circulating on the social media where some armed security personnel were seen breaking into an apartment somewhere still unknown in Ado-Ekiti. It was alleged in the post that Operation Flush Unit, which is a Joint Task Force of some security agencies, was responsible for the act.

“The Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Police is not part of the Operation Flush Unit as being alleged by a section of the public. The Police does not operate any unit called Operation Flush.”

VERDICT

The claim that the viral video of security operatives breaking into a home occurred in Southeast Nigeria is MISLEADING. Findings showed that the incident happened in Ado-Ekiti, located in Nigeria’s Southwest region, not the Southeast as claimed.
