Video does not show Tinubu’s response to Trump’s military action threat

A video circulating on social media falsely claims to show Nigerian President Bola Tinubu responding to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to take military action against Nigeria over the alleged persecution of Christians.

The short clip shows Tinubu while addressing the audience, saying: “We have no fear of whatever Trump is doing.”

An X account, @IMC_BRGIE, posted the video with the caption:

“Nigerians have no fear of whatever Trump is doing.”

The post has attracted over 1,000 views and more than 80 reposts as of November 5, 2025.

A Facebook account, Don Bliss Annie, also posted the video with a caption: “Breaking News….. President Bola Tinubu has finally Replied Donald Trump. Omg”.

THE FINDINGS

Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.

Trump, in a Truth Social post later shared on the official White House X handle, announced that he had designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), citing what he described as “an existential threat to Christianity.”

“Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ — but that is the least of it,” Trump wrote.

Citing alarming figures, he added: “When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide), something must be done. I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries.”

The post immediately stirred outrage and confusion in Nigeria, prompting a string of official responses from the presidency, ministries, lawmakers, and the president’s media aides.

However, checks by The FactCheckHub show that the viral video predates Trump’s November 2 remarks by two months. A longer version of the clip was uploaded by Channels Television to YouTube on September 2, 2025, with the title “Nigeria Has Met Revenue Target, Not Borrowed Locally — Tinubu.”

In the full video, Tinubu was addressing visitors at the Presidential Villa about Nigeria’s economic progress. The line about having “no fear of whatever Trump is doing” was made in that context and not in response to any recent U.S. statement.

Trump’s threat came much later, during a campaign rally where he warned of possible U.S. military intervention in Nigeria.

VERDICT

The claim that the video shows Tinubu’s latest response to Trump is MISLEADING. The video was recorded in September 2025, not after Trump’s November remarks. It was about Nigeria’s economy, not a response to Trump’s threat.
