A claim that Isaac Alfa, former Chief of Air staff, is the elected flagbearer of the Labour Party for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi state has surfaced online.
The claim is circulating after the party’s primary election held on Saturday, April 15 in Lokoja, the state capital.
A Twitter user, @Hermescott30 tweeted the claim with a caption :
“Dear OBIDIENTs this is the LP Governorship Candidate for Kogi. He is Isaac Alfa a former chief of the Air Staff in the Nigerian Air Force. APC and PDP need to be suffocated.”
The tweet has generated over 1000 retweets and more than 4000 likes as of Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Another Twitter user, @onlineguru_ tweeted the claim with the caption :
“Dear Obidients in Kogi. This is the LP Governorship Candidate for Kogi. He is Isaac Alfa a former chief of the Air Staff in the Nigerian Air Force. Please show him some love as you did Obi(sic).”
The tweet has generated over 200 retweets and more than 500 likes as of Saturday, April 22, 2023.
THE CLAIM
Isaac Alfa is the elected governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Kogi state.
THE FINDINGS
Findings by FactCheckHub show that the claim is FALSE.
Credible media reports show that legal practitioner, Adejo Okeme, is the winner of the Labour Party governorship ticket for the November 11 election in Kogi state.
According to The Punch, Okeme who is from Kogi East Senatorial district polled 127 votes ahead of his closest rival Isaac Alfa who scored 69 votes at the primary held in Lokoja, the state capital on April 15, 2023.

Okeme was declared the winner by Dr Ayo Olorunfemi, chairman of a committee set up by the Labour Party to oversee the election, Voice of Nigeria reported.
“Okeme, having scored the majority of the lawful votes cast at the indirect primary election conducted on April 15, in Kogi, is hereby declared the winner of the Labour Party primary election 2023, “ he said.
