“Congratulations to the Peter Obi. We’re winning this election, Insha Allah.”

FINDINGS

Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.

A reverse search and examination of the video’s earlier appearance on TikTok show that the video is old. An earlier version was posted by a user identified as Sani Abdullahi on 30 May 2023.

The account posted the video with the hashtag #kwankwasiyyatiktok.  Further checks show that the footage is consistent with the large gathering of Kwankwasiyya supporters in Kano on 29 May 2023, during the swearing-in of Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor of the state.

A report by Nigeria Info published on 29 May 2023, documented the large turnout of supporters who gathered at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to celebrate the governor’s inauguration.

The report noted that thousands of Kwankwasiyya supporters converged on the stadium after the handover ceremony at the African House. It also described the movement’s supporters as predominantly dressed in red caps and white kaftans, with women wearing red hijabs.

These details are consistent with the clothing and crowd shown in the circulating video.

The video therefore predates the current political mobilisation being discussed in the X post, and the people shown were not attending an NDC rally or campaigning for Peter Obi in the 2027 election.

VERDICT

The claim that the video shows recent rally for the NDC is MISLEADING. The video dates back to 30 May 2023 and is consistent with the gathering of Kwankwasiyya supporters in Kano for Abba Kabir Yusuf’s swearing-in as governor.
