Foreign actors misuse picture of murdered muslim villagers to depict christian massacre in Nigeria

A claim that an Image shows Christians being massacred and being buried has surfaced on the internet.

The image shows a large crowd of people gathered around several pickup trucks carrying multiple bodies wrapped in white burial shrouds. The trucks, including green, black, and orange ones, are loaded with the bodies, which appear to be prepared for burial.

An Israeli-based X user, @Vividprowess posted the image alongside a caption :

“Christians are being massacred by Islamists, their women kidnapped and raped, and forced to convert to Islam every day in Nigeria. Silence from the international media. Silence from the United Nations. Silence from Candace Owens. Silence from Tucker Carlson. Where is everyone?

Another foreign X user, @realmmalouf, shared the same image with a different caption that reads:
Christians are being massacred, and their women kidnapped, raped, and forcibly converted daily in Nigeria. This year, more Christians have been killed in Nigeria than Palestinians in Gaza. And yet, not a single protest for them!
Since the inception of the claim on Sunday, September 28, 2025, both posts have garnered an impression of over two million views, more than 100,000 likes, and nearly 50,000 reposts.

When the image was analysed in a Google Lens search, it led us to news report instances where it has been used as a featured image, as seen here and here. The media houses had credited the image source to Reuters.

THE VERDICT

The claim that an image in circulation shows massacred Christians in trucks is misleading; it shows the Islamic burial rites of murdered Yobe residents by bandits in the state.
