Claim that youths burned Tinubu posters after Kano APC rally is false

A VIRAL video posted on X by a verified user @abdullahiisha25 purports to show angry youths pulling down and setting fire to billboards and posters of President Bola Tinubu following an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kano State.

The caption accompanying the video states:

After the APC campaign rally in Kano angry youths were seen pulling down Tinubu billboards and posters and burning them as their frustrations against Tinubu get stronger by the day. Tinubu must go Tinubu must go Tinubu must go Tinubu is a one term President.

As of 7 September 2026, the post has accumulated over 46,000 views, 600 likes and over 300 retweets.

CLAIM

Video shows angry youths burning and pulling down President Bola Tinubu’s campaign posters and billboards following an APC rally in Kano.

FINDINGS

Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is FALSE.

The FactCheckHub conducted a forensic analysis of the visual material. An evaluation of different keyframes of the video using AI-detection tools, including Sightengine and ImageDetector, revealed a 99% and 91% probability that the video was AI-generated. The detectors identified key diffusion and generative artifacts in the rendering of the flames, paper textures, and background elements.

Furthermore, a review of credible news reports on the APC rally at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano shows that an incident did occur after the event. However, the reports, including Daily Trust’s account, described an attack on journalists by suspected thugs and did not corroborate claims of a widespread protest in which members of the public burnt Tinubu’s posters or political billboards.

Media outlets, including The Whistler and Daily Trust, reported that journalists returning from the venue were ambushed near Kofar Nassarawa. The reports did not corroborate the additional claim that angry youths destroyed or burnt posters of President Bola Tinubu.

VERDICT

The claim that the video shows angry youths burning President Bola Tinubu’s posters after an APC rally in Kano is FALSE. Analysis of the footage using AI-detection tools found strong indications that it was generated using artificial intelligence. Additionally, credible reports on the incident following the rally contain no evidence that Tinubu’s posters were burnt by angry youths.
