A VIDEO circulating on social media claims to show residents in Osun State confronting military officers allegedly deployed to rig the governorship election held on 15 August 2026.
The post was shared by a verified user, @NFPJNig, with the caption:
“This is Osun when they were sent to rig the election for them and the people resisted them, The situation has emboldened the people that they are talking their destinies by their hands, well done you guys, and that is how is going to be come 2027. Osun a lesson to learn for 2027, lets shun the fear they are inflicting on the people and take back our Country, They can only do NOTHING.#ObiKwankwaso2027 #RigandDie2027″

CLAIM
Video shows Osun State residents confronting military officers sent to rig the governorship election.
FINDINGS
Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.
The FactCheckHub conducted a keyframe extraction and reverse image search on the video, which revealed that the footage was not recorded in Osun State, nor does it originate from Nigeria.
The clip originally surfaced in December 2024 during the Ghanaian general elections. Media reports by Ghanaian news outlets, including TV3 Ghana, GhanaWeb and Beach FM 105.5, confirmed that the video captured an altercation in the Obuasi East constituency in Ghana.
According to reports, the incident involved soldiers and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer for Obuasi East, who confronted military personnel entering a polling station contrary to orders, which resulted in a heated exchange, during which warning shots being fired.
The ICIR reported that the Osun State governorship election, held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, concluded with incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke securing a second term in office. Contesting under the Accord party, Adeleke pulled off the victory by polling 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes.

Furthermore, the Osun State Police Command also debunked the claim, stating that the incident depicted in the video did not occur in Osun State.
VERDICT
The claim that the video shows Osun residents resisting military officers sent to rig the election is MISLEADING; the footage is an altercation between military personnel and a NDC communication officer in Obuasi East, Ghana, during their December 2024 general elections.
