AN aerial photo shared on social media claims to show a nearly completed affordable housing project in Kilifi County, Kenya.
The post, shared by an X user, @bakhita_esther, included the caption:
“Kilifi county Affordable housing almost Done, The government slogan is its track record.”
As of 24 August 2026, the post has garnered over 120,000 views, 129 likes and over 100 comments.

CLAIM
Photo shows an affordable housing project near completion in Kilifi County, Kenya.
FINDINGS
While affordable housing projects are indeed under construction in Kilifi, findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.
A reverse image search conducted by The FactCheckHub revealed that the images do not show a housing estate in Kilifi County or anywhere in Kenya. Instead, it depicts the Muhammadu Buhari Estate located along the Oke-Mosan-Kobape Express Road in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
The 108-unit residential housing estate was commissioned in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun. The image of the Nigerian housing project was published by media outlets, including Nigeria Housing Market, Punch Newspapers, and The Guardian Nigeria, documenting the estate’s completion in Ogun State.

The photograph was recycled and miscaptioned. It actually shows an affordable housing development in Abeokuta, Nigeria, not a government infrastructure project in Kilifi County, Kenya
