A VIRAL video circulating on social media depicts Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi threatening to cause nationwide unrest if any harm comes to bandits.
The video was posted by a Facebook page, @Young sunny001, using a split-screen reaction layout showing real footage of Sheikh Gumi alongside secondary visual overlays.
In the video, a voice attributed to the cleric states:
“Try and see if anything happens to bandit, I’ll turn this country upside down.”
As of 1 September 2026, the reel has gathered over 1,000 likes, 1,000 shares, and more than 150 comments, with many viewers believing the statement to be authentic due to the cleric’s past public commentary on banditry.

CLAIM

FINDINGS
Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is FALSE.
Ahmad Abubakar Gumi is a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, scholar, and retired captain in the Nigerian Army Medical Corps. He serves as the current Mufti and Mufassir at the Kaduna central mosque Sultan Bello.
Over recent years, he has emerged as one of northern Nigeria’s most influential yet controversial non-state figures, largely due to his continued advocacy for dialogue, mediation and government amnesty for armed bandits rather than relying solely on military operations.
The FactCheckHub conducted a reverse image search on keyframes extracted from the video to locate the original context of the visuals. The search yielded no official media footage or recorded interviews matching the specific audio or statements made in the viral clip.

Furthermore, a comprehensive search across major credible news platforms and media archives returned no report of Gumi making such a declaration. Given the cleric’s public profile and the media scrutiny surrounding his remarks on security, a statement of such gravity would have been widely reported by mainstream news outlets if genuine.
To verify the content, The FactCheckHub subjected the media to forensic analysis using deepfake detection platforms.
Analysis via AI Aware’s Deepfake Detection tool classified the media as AI-generated. To further isolate the manipulation, The FactCheckHub extracted the audio track and ran it through Ressemble AI’s detection tool, which flagged the audio as fake with an 86.9 per cent AI confidence score.
Forensic analysis of the audio confirmed that the primary speech track is an AI-generated voice clone. The tool noted that “the voice lacks natural human cadence, exhibits robotic consistency during high volume shouting and contains digital compression artifacts.”
VERDICT
The claim that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi threatened to “turn the country upside down” if anything happens to bandits is FALSE. Digital forensic analysis confirms the video relies on an AI-generated voice clone overlaid onto edited visual media to fabricate a statement the cleric never made.
