INTRODUCTION: It’s no secret that the internet has transformed the way we communicate, consume information and conduct business. But with this new found freedom comes a lot of challenges. The vast expanse of the online world makes it a breeding ground for misinformation, hate speech and harmful content. Governments around the world are debating on how to address these concerns. Should they take a hands-off approach, allowing the internet to remain a free and open space, or should they step in to regulate content and protect users from potential harm?
On Fact Finders today, we’ll be diving deep into the debate surrounding online content regulation. We’ll hear from experts on both sides of the issue, exploring the arguments for and against government’s intervention. We have here: Khadijah El-Usman, Senior Programs Officer for Anglophone West Africa at Paradigm Initiative, a Pan-African NGO with focus on protecting digital rights of citizenry and Opeyemi Kehinde, Editor of the FactCheckHub.
